10 Baby Swings with Canopy Reviews 2021

Baby swings are often the number one solution that parents turn to when having an infant who is constantly crying and needs to be rocked to sleep. So many of the swings in the market are packed with an array of soothing features from music, different swing motions and speed, vibrations, lights, and mobile toys.

Unfortunately, most of the swings do not have a canopy and yet a canopy improves the aesthetics and helps protect your baby from harsh sun rays when you take your baby outside or place her near the window. Even when used indoors, the canopy will block harsh light from your baby’s eyes and create a cozy space that the baby can fall asleep more easily.

If you are looking for a swing with a canopy, we will be honest they are hard to find. But, you are in luck because we have done the legwork for you and prepared a list of ten swings with canopy to choose from depending on your unique needs. Better still, some even include a net so you can take your baby outside without having to worry about bugs and critters getting to your baby.

Reviews of baby swings with canopies in 2021

1. Honey Joy baby swing

Honey Joy baby swing

Weight capacity: 20 pounds

You may not have heard about this baby swing as it is a news release from July 2021, but we found it to be one of the most functional baby swings we came across. It has a lot of great features that you’ll love.

First off, the swing is made from sturdy Aluminum which is not heavy at all. You will easily be able to move it all over the house, from the bathroom while you shower, to the kitchen while you cook, and everywhere in between. It even comes with a canopy and mosquito net, so you can as well bring the baby outside without fear of being scorched by the sun or the bugs getting in. And, if things get messy, you will quickly remove all the fabrics and seat pads and throw them in the washer.

It offers side-to-side motions with five-speed options. And, you can also lock it in place when needed. In addition, there are ten built-in lullabies, or you can play the sounds your baby likes from your phone using Bluetooth or USB.

And unlike older generations of swing, this swing comes with a smart touch panel and remote control for convenience. That way, mom can relax and adjust all she needs without getting off the sofa. The timer for music and swinging motions is preset to 8, 15, or 30 minutes to choose depending on your needs.

It also has both plug-in and battery powering mode options for portability and convenience.

Considering the low pricing, we felt this is a great purchase for anyone looking for a baby swing.

2. Nova baby infant swing

Nova baby infant swing

Weight capacity: 24 pounds/8 months

The Nova baby is a premium infant swing with a canopy plus mosquito net, so you can use it anywhere you wish. It is lightweight, easy to assemble and disassemble, and uses plug-in and battery options for maximum convenience wherever you are. It has a very similar design and functionality to the Honey Joy above and has been around a bit longer with good ratings, so if you want something tested, you can opt for this swing instead.

The Nova swing gently rocks your baby from side to side to give your arms a much-needed break. Plus, it also has Bluetooth and USB connectivity options allowing you to play music and soothing nature sound for your baby from your devices, or you can choose from the ten preset lullabies.

For easy operations, it has a touch panel or remote control. and depending on your baby’s needs, you can set the Nova to turn off after 8, 15, or 30 minutes to save time and power. It has five different speed options suitable for any mood your baby is in.

In addition to the standard Ac adapter, the Nova can be powered with batteries, allowing for convenience, portability, and a canopy and protective mosquito net for outdoor use.

It also includes a cozy infant insert and removable machine washable cover, making it a mom’s favorite. Compared to the Honey Joy, it is more expensive and slightly heavier.

3. Dream On Me Zazu Cradling Swing

Dream On Me Zazu Cradling Swing

The Zazu baby swing is designed to provide a safe and fun space for your little one to lounge as you enjoy some hands-free time. It comes with a removable canopy and insect net, making it perfect for indoor and outdoor use.

This swing features a 5 point harness, anti-skid, and washable seat pad that keeps the baby safe and cozy.

It will keep your baby happy and excited with two plush toys and a lot of melodies. In addition, you can use the Bluetooth function to choose songs and sounds that your baby likes. And you can also choose from five swing speeds to help soothe your baby. It also comes with a remote for easy settings adjustments and is powered by plugging into the wall.

Some things that parents were not happy about was that it’s only the seat pads and toys that can be removed for washing. Also, the net cannot be detached from the canopy so the only way to get it out of the way is to fold back, which doesn’t look neat. But other than that, this is a great baby swing.

4. Hahaland smart baby swing

Hahaland smart baby swing

Weight capacity: 20 pounds

This smart baby swing provides your newborn with proper head and neck support for comfort just like they feel in your arms and rocks them gently from side to side. You can choose your preferred speed from five different speeds. It also includes ten soothing lullabies and has Bluetooth and USB connectivity, allowing you to play your baby’s favorite tunes from your devices. There are also some fun plush toys to play with.

When you are having or relaxing on the sofa, you can remotely control the baby swings without getting up. You can adjust all features with the remote, including music, timer control, swing speeds, and more. The timer is set for 8, 15, or 30 minutes. Also, like others on this list, it is equipped with a canopy and a removable mosquito net, so you will be able to use it inside the house and outside.

You will truly enjoy the experience with this baby swing seeing that it is lightweight, compact, and relatively quiet in operation. And you can quickly turn it on just by plugging in, and whenever the baby has made some mess here and there, the fabrics easily remove for a quick wash in the washer.

5. Baby Swing with Summer mat for Infants Motorized Portable Swing

Baby Swing with Summer mat for Infants Motorized Portable Swing

Weight capacity: 20 pounds.

This one is also a 2021 release, and it is worth considering as it has great quality and design. It is compact and lightweight and occupies minimal space.

The swing has a gentle incline, so your newborn should be comfortable, and also features a five-point harness for safety. In addition, it comes with a canopy and removable mosquito net for additional protection against the sun and bugs.

Like other swings on this list, it has side-to-side rocking motions with five different speeds to choose from. And it can play whatever music or sounds you like with USB connectivity. You can control all settings remotely and set your desired duration that the music and swing motions will continue to run from three options.

You will also be glad to know that it comes with a bonus summer mat, which makes for a lovely gift.

This is a great option to try, and you shouldn’t worry as the manufacturer offers a free return policy if you don’t like it.

6. Fisher-price on the go swing

Fisher-price on the go swing

Weight capacity: 25 pounds

If you are looking for a travel baby swing with a canopy, the Fisher-Price on the go swing was designed to offer little one soothing comfort wherever you go. It features a large retractable canopy to keep your baby cool and comfy when lounging outside.

Compared to others on this list, this travel swing provides the best range of soothing features with vibrations, music, and sounds, and six swing speeds so you can soothe the baby the best way possible. We also loved that it is equipped with a five-point harness, which is the safest for little ones, and that the seat has nice comfy padding and is machine washable.

This swing easily folds and has a carry handle for easy transportation whenever you are ready to head out the door.

It is the only baby swing on this list that costs below $100, making it a perfect choice for those on a budget. However, it only uses batteries and is bound to drain fast when used for vibrations, music, and other soothing functions. So when you add the cost of replacing batteries now and then, it might be expensive in the long run, depending on your usage.

7. Fisher price starlight Papasan cradle swing

If you are looking for a cozy swing for your little boy or girl, you have got to try the Fisher-Price Starlight cradle swing. It has a soft seat with head support and a canopy draping down around your baby to create a nice comfy spot for your baby and plenty of features to entertain and soothe even the fussiest baby.

While most swings only offer front-to-back swing motion, Fisher-Price Starlight has two swing modes so that the baby can also go side to side. We have found that most babies prefer side-to-side motions. It also has two recline positions allowing your baby to lie down or sit up.

The Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan cradle also has one of the best mobiles compared to other swings. The mobile has two soft toys and projecting lights that cast spinning stars on the canopy creating the most mesmerizing view for your baby. It is also equipped with an activity tray for play which is not common in other swings as well.

The seat fabrics are removable and can easily be washed in the washer. It also has both plug and battery powering options for convenience.

The only downside is that even though the legs are foldable, this swing is bulky and occupies quite a big space.

8. Baby swings for infant girls

Are you looking for a comfortable cradle for your baby girl? This super cute baby swing might end up becoming your favorite. It is a 2021 release, and parents who have tried it are pretty happy about its performance. We also appreciate that the manufacturer thought to include some cute pair of socks as a gift.

The swing has great quality and doesn’t require a lot of space. It comes with a canopy and mosquito net, making it suitable to use indoors and outdoors.

The seat has soft fabrics and adequate padding to keep your baby cozy as they lounge. And it also has an ergonomic design and a five-point harness for safety.

With five swing speeds, lullabies, and two plush toys, it keeps your baby entertained and relaxed so you can also get some much-needed rest. It has Bluetooth and USB connectivity, allowing you to play sounds that your baby likes. In addition, you can set the timer and control all the features remotely, which is fantastic.

You don’t have to worry about messes with this swing, as the seat fabrics are removable and machine washable. It can also be powered by plugging into the wall or battery, which is convenient.

9. Music baby swings for infants

This 3-in-1 swing can transform into a rocker and a bassinet in a snap. And we always love when the baby gear comes as a combo because it provides more value at comparably low pricing than if you were to buy each piece separately.

When converted into a swing, it can sway side to side and has five different speed options. As a rocker, your baby will still get to enjoy listening to relaxing music from your phone, or you can choose from the melodies that are inbuilt. It has a timer set for 15, 30, or 45 minutes and you can adjust all these settings and more from the buttons at the base or with the remote.

It has a five-point harness to keep your baby safe and secure when using it as a swing or rocking chair. The backrest can also be lowered to transform into a bassinet with deep walls, breathable mesh sides next to the baby’s head, and a cozy mattress pad where your baby can fall asleep easily. However, it’s good to note that it doesn’t lie flat, so we would not advise this for sleeping.

10. Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing

Weight capacity: 25 pounds

This is another fantastic option for a baby girl. The beautiful pink color and delicate design make it perfect for little princesses. It is very similar in design to the Starlight version we saw earlier, and the only difference is that this one features projector lights with butterflies while the other had stars. We love the mobile feature on this one more, and we bet your baby girl will also enjoy watching butterflies spinning around her till she falls asleep.

Unlike other canopies on this list, this one is airy and drapes down like a curtain around your baby, making her feel safe and protected. It also makes the swing look so cozy. The seat is nicely padded and has two reclining positions to allow for feeding or relaxing. And you can rotate the seat to the right, left, or center to have the baby facing in whatever direction you want.

The swing offers gentle side-to-side and front-to-back motions with six-speed settings. It also provides a variety of soothing tunes and nature sounds and has a play tray. It is powered by plugging into the wall or batteries, whichever is convenient for you.

As you can see, this baby swing packs a lot, but we have ranked it a lot lower because there are many complaints about the canopy not staying open because it does not have ties or fasteners. Second, it takes a lot of space on the floor and is bulky to move around.

Best Lightweight Baby Carriers

Carrying the baby around as you get chores done at home or during travel is hard and can leave you feeling hot and sweaty, especially in the hotter months. But with a lightweight carrier, you can have a more pleasant experience where you are not weighed down, and both you and your baby are not overheating even with temperatures running high.

Here on this guide, we have searched and listed the best lightweight carriers that are also easy to use, comfortable, and hip healthy (should have a wide seat that supports the baby’s legs in an M-shaped position to allow proper hip development). We also prefer carriers with convenient features like a hood to cover the baby while napping or nursing and pockets to keep essentials like keys, phone, or wallet. That way, you don’t have to carry extra bags.

Something to note before we start is that if you are looking for a carrier to use during summer, it would be better to go with lighter colors instead of dark colors that absorb the sun’s energy or heat.

Secondly, carriers offer different carrying positions for you and your baby’s comfort. You can use the front-facing in position with an infant or toddler but only switch to front-facing out if your baby has good head and neck control (about 6 months). Back carry can also be used for toddlers above 6 months and works especially great with bigger toddlers and preschoolers.

With that in mind, here are the best lightweight carriers in the market.

Reviews of the Best Lightweight Baby Carriers

Ergobaby 360 mesh baby carrier

Ergobaby 360 is our best choice not because it is the lightest but because it is super easy to use with all the features you would desire in a carrier, and it grows with your baby from birth until they don’t need to be in a carrier (from 7 to 45 pounds). If you can afford it, this carrier is well built with high quality, soft, lightweight, and durable mesh and promises to keep you and your baby cool during hot weather.

It is a versatile carrier that is designed to fit all body types with an adjustable waistband that fits wearers with a waist of 26 to 52 inches and shoulder straps 28 to 46 inches. In addition, it allows you to carry the baby any way you like from front in, front out, side, hip, and on the back and it is super easy to switch positions without removing the carrier.

This carrier is comfortable to wear even for long hours because of the extra-wide padded waistband and lumbar support that evenly distributes weight around the waist and padded shoulders for extra comfort.

It is just as comfy for your baby by keeping them cradled in the ergonomic position that allows healthy natural development of hips.

It also has a tuck-away hood to shield your baby from the sun and wind and also allows discreet nursing.

Pros

  • Sturdy and durable construction
  • Allows multiple carrying positions from front in, front out, and back
  • Soft, durable mesh for maximum airflow and breathability
  • Shoulder straps can be worn backpack or crisscrossed for comfort
  • Wide waistband and lumbar support
  • Storage pocket to stash essentials on the go
  • UPF 50+ for protection against the sun and wind and discrete breastfeeding

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Not easy to breastfeed when wearing it

2. Baby Bjorn Carrier One Air Mesh Baby Carrier

If you are looking for a really sleek carrier, none beats the Baby Bjorn, and you can choose the Carrier one version that has a lightweight, breezy mesh to keep you and your baby cool and comfortable on hot days. It also dries very quickly.

This carrier comes in six different mute colors and is suitable to use from birth without an infant insert up to 36 months. The seat is adjustable, allowing you to expand or narrow it to the right size for your baby’s size.

One complaint parents have about carriers with mesh is that they feel rough. You will not experience this as Baby Bjorn carrier one is made with polyester mesh material that feels so soft against the baby’s skin.

The carrier offers four carrying positions: newborn, front in, front out, and back carry. Plus, it keeps your baby in an ergonomic position for proper hip development and has a foldable head support flap for infants and newborns.

The carrier has a wide padded waist pad and padded shoulders, but you can still feel the baby weight on your waist, so it’s not as comfy when wearing for long hours like the Omni, our first choice.

Pros

  • Sleek design
  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Super soft material
  • Suitable from newborn without an insert
  • Hip healthy approved
  • Machine washable and fast drying
  • Durable

Cons

  • No storage pockets
  • Some parents wished that the shoulder straps were crisscrossed for comfort
  • Pricey

3. Boba Air baby carrier

Boba Air is the most lightweight carrier on this list and a top favorite for traveling parents because it is compact and self-storing, which is highly convenient when you are on the move. You can quickly fold it into its hood pocket and throw it into the diaper bag when traveling. There is also an easily accessible front pocket that is big enough to hold a phone, keys, and other small items.

Boba Air is made of 100% nylon and can accommodate children weighing 15 to 45 pounds. It was recently improved, and now, it has padded leg openings to prevent irritation on the thighs and legs to ensure the baby is comfortable even on long trips. Plus, its ergonomic seat improves comfort as well. It also has a hood to shield the baby when napping or nursing.

The nylon material is water-resistant and easy to clean, and although you can’t use the carrier in water at the beach, your baby should stay dry in case of splashes.

Boba Air is designed to fit different wearers with a height of 5’0″ to 6’3″ and waistband range from 27 to 55 inches. They also have waist belt extenders for wearers with a waist above 55 inches. Shoulder straps are also padded for comfort.

Pros

  • Ultra lightweight and compact
  • Improved with padded leg holes and shoulder straps for comfort
  • Water resistant
  • Adjustable to fit different body types
  • Allows nursing comfortably
  • Has a hood to shield the baby when napping or nursing
  • Reasonably priced

Cons

  • Cannot be used with newborns and babies below 15 pounds and doesn’t have an insert
  • Limited carrying options, there is no front out position which curious toddlers love
  • Shoulders straps are too long and wide for petite wearers
  • Extra padding on shoulders makes it difficult to pack the carrier into the pocket

4. Lillebaby Complete All Seasons

Lille Complete All Seasons is the other carrier that does it all, like the Ergobaby Omni, and is infant cheaper. This carrier feels like you are wearing nothing at just one pound, yet it carries infants and toddlers from 7 up to 45 pounds! You adjust the seat to two different widths as your baby grows.

You will love that there is no limit to the number of carrying positions you may want to try as it allows six different carrying positions, including front facing in, facing out, fetal, infant facing in, hip, and back. And, it has a wide seat that provides your baby with an ergonomic position and comfortable seating.

It is also super comfy for the wearer with its wide waistband, lumbar support, and padded shoulder straps, which help distribute the baby’s weight evenly on your back and shoulders. Plus, shoulder straps allow both backpack and crisscross carrying options which are great for extra comfort to relieve any pressure on the shoulders.

Complete all season is the only carrier you need for year-round use thanks to its temperature regulating panels. When it’s hot, you unzip the front panel to reveal the breathable mesh, allowing airflow to keep you and your baby overheating and when it’s cold, you close the zip to trap heat and keep the baby warm.

The Lillebaby Complete Airflow also comes with all the convenient features parents love at great pricing. There is a sleeping hood with UPF 50+ sun protection that doubles as head support when the baby is facing in, adjustable straps that allow breastfeeding while wearing, and a zippered pocket to keep necessities.

If you want a truly cool version, you may want to get the Lillebaby Complete Airflow, which is made of breathable mesh for maximum airflow. It is just as lightweight (1.34 pounds), and all other functionality is similar to the Complete All Season.

Pros

  • Can be used from infancy to toddlerhood providing great value
  • Adjustable seat and back panels grow with the baby
  • Ergonomic position is comfy for babies and toddlers and allows normal hip development
  • Multiple ways to carry the baby, including hip and front out, which some carriers do not provide
  • A lot comfy than other carriers because of lumbar support and shoulder straps with backpack and crisscross options

  • Large zippered storage pocket
  • Easy to clean, machine washable
  • Available in many nice prints

Cons

  • Complaints about the stitching around the legs being rough and rubbing the baby’s thighs and legs
  • You can’t use the pocket when you open the front panel to increase airflow
  • Not easy to convert from inward to outward facing positions

5. Baby K’tan Breeze Baby Carrier

For parents who love wraps, our best recommendation is the Baby K’tan Breeze. This is because, unlike other wraps that have just too much fabric to wrestle with, Baby K’tan is designed ready-to-wear. You just get it out of the box and wear it over your body like a T-shirt, stretch it a bit, and pop in the baby in a matter of seconds- no complicated wrapping, buckles, straps, or snaps to deal with.

It is a 100% cotton carrier that is a mixture of half mesh and half jersey, so you know it is totally breathable and will keep you and your baby cool even in hot weather. And, it is so lightweight and compact that you can easily pack it in your purse or diaper when heading out and comes with its own carry bag.

The carrier can be used with babies 8 up to 35 pounds, and it is available in different sizes for different sized wearers from XXS to XL. In addition, it is highly versatile with five different carrying positions with the front in variations and fronts out.

Baby K’tan also has an even cooler version, the Active, which is similar to the Breeze in all aspects from sizes, carrying positions, and pricing, but has a stretchy, breathable, and moisture-wicking fabric that prevents any sweating and keeps your baby cool even in hot weather. Moreover, the Active fabric also provides up to 90% UVA and UVB protection to keep your baby safe from harmful sun rays when you are out in the sun during the day.

You can choose either version depending on your needs as they are both breathable and lightweight.

Pros

  • Lightweight and stretchy and compact
  • Comes ready to wear, no need to wrap
  • Safe to use from birth
  • Hip healthy approved by International Hip Dysplasia Institute
  • Allows discrete nursing
  • Allows five different carrying options with front in and out positions
  • Comes with a carry bag
  • Machine washable and dryer safe

Cons

  • Since it is individually sized, you may not be able to share it with your family members.
  • Doesn’t have much back support, so it might cause soreness on the back with prolonged wearing.
  • Some people have a hard time getting the right size

6. Tula Lite Baby Carrier

Baby Tula has many great carriers, but the Lite version is the lightest of them all, weighing just a mere pound. It is suitable for toddlers weighing between 12 to 30 pounds and has an especially great fit for petite wearers as the waist goes as low as 23 inches, compared to 27 inches for other carriers.

Tula Lite is a great travel option as, besides the low weight, it also folds compactly and packs into its hip pocket, which is very convenient. Additionally, it comes with a detachable hood to protect your baby from the sun and during naps.

It is made with light, breathable material that is durable and fast drying. It also has a wide waistband to distribute weight evenly on your hips and padded shoulder straps for comfort.

This carrier allows front in and back carry only and keeps the baby in an ergonomic position. And again, it has a spacious zip pocket on the waist to hold essentials like a phone or wallet, which is great.

Pros

  • Ultra light and compact
  • Folds into a pack making it perfect for travel
  • Pocket for essentials
  • Detachable hood for naps or sun protection

Cons

  • You may need to buy another carrier to use from birth as this one is for babies from 12 to 30 pounds
  • Limited carrying positions, no front facing out

7. Infantino Flip 4-In-1 Light and Airy

If you are on a budget yet want a lightweight and versatile carrier, Infantino Flip 4-in-1 is the best option. It is the only option in the market at less than $50 with an adjustable narrow and wide seat for babies from 8 to 32 pounds that also has four carrying positions with front-facing in infant and toddler, facing out, and backpack.

At the price point, this carrier doesn’t have much padding, but it has a lightweight breathable mesh that keeps you and your baby cool and comfortable. In addition, it has an ergonomic design, lumbar support, and an adjustable waist belt to fit wearers with different body types.

Pros

  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Multiple carrying positions
  • Comfortable with lumbar support
  • Provides ergonomic position for normal hip development for the baby
  • Machine washable
  • Budget friendly pricing

Cons

  • Doesn’t have pockets
  • Padding is limited, not comfortable for wearing long periods
Best Baby Swing For Colic

Best Baby Swing For Colic

Are you looking for the best baby swing for colic? I wrote this article with you in mind and I know that you will find it helpful.

It is quite normal for babies to cry, but those who have colic tend to cry more often. Your baby can be considered as colic if they cry more than 3 hours a day for at least 3 days a week. And as the Children Hospital of Philadelphia explains it, it begins when your baby is 3 weeks old and peaks at the 4th to 6th week.  During this period, your baby suffers a lot of discomfort and it is never easy for you either. These symptoms often wane as your baby turns 3 to 4 months old.

Baby colic is not a disease and there are certain things that you can do to ease this including vertically holding him after eating, playing comforting music, and wrapping him. You can also place your little one on your lap and rub their back with their tummies down to help pass gas.

The most effective method for easing baby colic, however, is putting your little angel in a baby swing. And because baby swings are made differently, not all will help with your colicky baby. That is why I have conducted in-depth research on the best swing for colicky babies that will guide you through to the best baby swing for your colicky baby.

Does baby swing help colic?

According to Dr. Harvey Karp, something that replicates the environment of the mother’s womb can be helpful in soothing and calming down your baby. Dr.  Harvey was speaking  to the Seattle PI. And in this case, the best swing for a colicky baby has a swinging motion that helps create a sensation of the child being inside the mother’s womb.

And since swinging your baby in your arms every time they cry can be exhausting, that is where baby swings come in to help. If you have a colicky baby, the cyclical motion of a baby swing can be a real game changer in helping soothe and calm your baby down. Baby swings also help provide a secure, inclined space for stomach comfort and ease colic pains by allowing excess airflow. This, in turn, can disrupt the awful feeling of colic allowing your baby to sleep.

How to pick the best Swing for Colicky baby

Not every baby swing out there comes in handy to help suppress the symptoms of colic in your baby. As such, I have put together a list of things to consider when purchasing the best baby swing for colic. Here are the things that make the best swing for colic baby:

  1. Seating Positions

Go for a baby swing with several seating positions, especially more upright than flat. Why so you may ask? Baby colic has been associated with acid reflux which causes discomfort hence the regular cries. A vertical position helps lessen acid reflux by allowing gas to pass.

  1. Safety Features

This should be a priority when you shop for any baby products and a baby swing is no exemption. As such, opt for a product that holds your baby snugly but securely onto the swing such as a 5-point harness to prevent them from falling off the swing.

  1. Swing Movement & Speed

Pick a product that comes with multiple swinging movements, but mostly with an option for head to toe swing movement. As mentioned above from experts, that movement creates an environment that makes your baby feel like they are in the womb. The soothing and relaxing plus safety help stop your colicky baby from crying.

  1. Robustness & Comfort

Buy your kiddie with colic a sturdy baby swing that will support his or her weight as she grows older and heavier. As such, it will not break easily. In addition to robustness, make sure the seat is made with soft, padded material for optimal comfort.

  1. Size & Space

Look at the space you have in your house so you can know the size of baby swing that is suitable enough for you. There are baby swings for limited spaces and large spaces which depend on the width of the swing’s frame.

  1. Source of Power

There are those baby swings that use batteries and those that use plug-in as the power source to operate them. In my opinion, I think a baby swing with both power options is much better since while one saves on battery money, the other comes in handy during outdoor use.

  1. White Noise

One of the reasons why I love baby swings with white noise is because it has shown to help babies stop colic. As such, go for a baby swing with nature noises so your child can pick on these things later in life.

  1. Ease of Cleaning

Babies are very sensitive which is why I recommend you to buy baby swings with materials that are easy to clean. As such, go for a baby swing with a machine-washable seat pad since it can be difficult to always wash them by hand.

  1. Design

The design of a baby swing also matters a lot, especially when it comes to portability as you can move it all over the house easily depending on which room you are in. It is also helpful for use during outdoor use and can be easy to match with your home décor.

10. Extras

Some baby swings come with extra features that help sooth your colicky baby even better such as vibration. Check how easy it is to assemble before shopping as well as the baby swing brand’s customer service responsiveness because you might need it. And although the price tag of a baby swing matters as well, it should not be prioritized before all the mentioned features. However, do not go for one that is not within your budget limit.

Reviews of the Best Swings for Colicky Baby

Best Flying Saucer Swings

Best Flying Saucer Swings

What is a flying saucer swing?

A flying saucer is basically a swing with a saucer-shaped seat. This type of swing has the advantage of being generous enough to allow multiple kids to enjoy swinging at the same time. Some flying saucer swing models can be hanged from tree branches, while others come with their own sturdy stand.

Why kids like them

There are so many reasons why flying saucer swings are a hit with kids. First is the most obvious one: the fun of swinging! Kids love being physically active and exercising. The swing allows kids to swing in different fun ways like back and forth, spinning, or a mixture of both.

Second, saucer wings allow several kids to swing together, which is more fun. Of course, this will depend on the size and recommended weight capacity, but most can allow two to three kids at once.

Third, saucer swings provide a relaxing place for the kids to sit in a group telling stories, playing mind games, or reading. They can also stand as the saucer swing is pretty sturdy and safe.

Fourth, saucer swings are portable and can be used both indoor and outdoor. This means kids can continue to have fun swinging even when the weather is bad.

How to choose the best

Below are a few things to check before buying your flying saucer swing. They apply for both tree swing and saucer swing withstand.

High-quality hardware

The quality of hardware of the swing is the most important factor to consider as it determines the swing’s ability to withstand pressure and harsh weather conditions. Choose one with a sturdy frame. Swing set hardware made from a steel frame and polythene ropes are stable and require very minimal maintenance, if at any. Also, choose swings with good warranty deals as you can be sure any issues that may arise will be sorted for free for the period the warranty is valid.

The right certification

Knowing that the flying saucer swing your children will be using has been tested and cleared for safety by ASTM and CPSIA is reassuring, so always check if it has the certification before installing.

Ability to meet your intended use

Saucer swing models are versatile and can be used in quite a lot of ways. You could use it for family fun, kids play, exercising, group play with friends, outdoors fun, indoor fun, etc. Once you are decided about how you plan to use the swing, you just need to ensure that the swing meets the required specification. If you plan on indoor use, for example, you may need to buy a saucer swing with a stand. If you plan on family use, a larger swing with a high weight limit would be ideal.

Safety features

Whether you are using the swing for family use or kids’ play, you don’t want to overlook safety. Check what safety features the swing has in place before purchasing. You could also read reviews of people who have had an experience with the product to give you a picture of its reliability.

Best Baby Carriers with Good Back Support 2021

In this post, I share my invaluable tips to pick the best baby carriers with good back support available in the market today.

The months you may be spending carrying an unborn baby or carrying your newborn in the first few months after birth can take such a toll on your body. I had extreme aches myself when I had my firstborn and I was able to overcome the consistent back pains and still carry my baby. As an expert in baby products now, I am excited to offer unbiased advice to parents looking for the best baby carriers that have good back support in 2021. Most moms will say that motherhood is the most life-changing, beautiful, and treasured gift they have ever experienced and I want to make it easy for you to carry your baby regardless of any back pain.

One of the most common complaints among mothers is postpartum sciatica. In simpler terms, this is pain that occurs in areas where the sciatic nerve is found. This nerve is the longest in the body running from the lower back and down to the lower extremities. So these women complain of lower back pain, pain that radiates from the hip to the foot, and pins and needles sensation, among other symptoms.

Mostly, this condition starts in the third trimester when the weight of the growing bump compresses the sciatic nerve. Luckily, most affected moms get relief after delivering. Still, some moms perhaps due to the trauma of delivery, start to experience these troubling symptoms for the first time, and others suffer from having their preexisting back problems aggravated.

If you suffer from back pain, you can still carry your baby. In this review, we will be discussing the best carriers that you can use without hurting your back even further. We will also be sharing tips to keep that terrible back pain at bay so you can keep enjoying the sweet moments of wearing your baby.

Reviews of Best Baby Carriers with Back Support in 2021

#1. Lillebaby Complete

Lillebaby complete is the overall best carrier for you if you have back pains because it has all the features that help to alleviate back pains. The shoulder straps are wide and well-padded, and you can wear them crisscrossed, which helps to distribute the weight evenly across your back. You can also opt to wear backpack style.

$119.98  in stock
Amazon.com
as of October 16, 2021 9:47 pm

It also has a wide padded waistband to help distribute the baby’s weight evenly on your hips. But it also includes lumbar support to help those with back problems by cushioning and supporting the lower back.

As for carrying options, it is a 6-in-1 baby carrier, allowing various front-facing positions, hip and back carrying styles. This is really helpful if you are suffering from back pain because you can switch to positions that feel comfortable for you.

The other thing to like is that this model has variations for all-weather wear. The airflow model has a temperature regulated panel that you zip up for warmth or zip down to reveal a cool, breathable mesh. Airflow, the best if you live in hot places, is all breathable mesh. The one above is the original version which is all cotton.

Features

  • Recommend for babies from 7 to 45 pounds

As you can see, if you have a bad back, you have many adjusting options to help alleviate your pain. However, keep in mind that with a hip seat, it really depends on where your injury is because it places the weight on the belt and around your waist.

If you want to go out, but you don’t want to carry a purse, this carrier has a convenient pocket at the waistband and another one in front to keep a few handy items, keys, phones, cash, etc. and, this pocket opens to reveal breathable mesh if it gets too hot in the day.

This is another option to explore because apart from affording you the natural feel and snugness of a wrap, the design can also help some people with bad backs. When wearing the baby in this carrier, the baby actually sits high on your torso so the weight is not placed around your waist or hips, which helps relieve any pain you may be having on your lower back.

As you can see from the picture above, the shoulder straps are worn crisscrossed and bound together, which helps to distribute weight evenly on your upper back and shoulders. They are also wide so as not to dig into your shoulders and you can still spread the material over your shoulder even more to get better weight distribution. However, because the weight concentrates on the upper back and shoulders rather than also spreading to the waist and hips, it may trigger soreness and pain for some people, especially the busty moms.

It is also a versatile carrier giving you 5 different carrying positions so you can switch to any that feels comfortable and enjoyable for you and your baby.

Baby K’tan also has other models for summer wear. They have a Breeze model with mesh on one to keep you cool, and an Active model with mesh, UVA protection, and moisture-wicking fabric, ensuring you are not drenching in sweat.

Features

  • Recommended for newborn up to 35 pounds
  • Carrying positions: front facing in (kangaroo and hug), front-facing out, front-facing sideways, hip.
  • Material: cotton, versions of the mesh
  • Size: XXL to XL

  • Excellent shoulder support
  • Versatile, five carrying positions
  • Allows breastfeeding
  • Easy care, Machine wash, and dryer safe
  • Approved hip-healthy

Cons

  • Might be tricky for some people to find a fitting size
  • Does not have a hood or pocket
  • Not flexible to accommodate different wearers, no sharing
  • Uneven weight distribution may cause shoulder pain for some wearers

If you are looking for a back-support carrier with a breathable air mesh, Ergoaby Omni 360 is your best option. This carrier shares a lot of similarities with the Ergo original we saw above, but there are a few differences. 7 tips for preventing child wearing back pain

There are set guidelines stating how many hours you should spend carrying your baby, but it is wise that you cut down the duration as soon as you start having discomfort. You can also use the following tips to avoid pain on your back:

  • When carrying the baby in front of your body, position the baby high enough that you can easily kiss the top of their head. This helps to minimize pressure on your back.
  • Tighten the carrier to keep the baby as close to your body as possible. Wearing the baby too loose increases pressure on your lower back.
  • When using a soft structured carrier, ensure you secure the waistband tightly over your hips so that the baby’s weight is on your hips instead of your back.
  • When wearing the shoulder straps of your SSC, ensure you tighten them sufficiently and evenly.
  • Switch to back carry position when your toddler reaches 6 months or 20 pounds. Carrying a heavy baby from the front strains your back and can cause lower back pain.
  • Consider back wearing once your baby is old enough to support their head. Avoid the forward-facing position on your front because it can place pressure on your lower back and pelvic floor, leading to many undesirable issues like back pain and urinary incontinence.
  • If you have suffered from back pain in the past, you can still be able to carry your baby. Talk to your doctor or physiotherapist first to get the go-ahead. They will also advise you on how best to carry depending on where your injury was. Then select a carrier that is designed to distribute the baby’s weight evenly across your shoulders and hips.

Buyer guide – what to consider when buying carriers for back pain

There are different types of carriers that you can use even if you suffer from back pain. Below are some factors you need to consider as you look for a suitable carrier that won’t worsen your problem:

Your child’s age

Some carriers work better for newborns others for older babies. For instance, a wrap gives the best carrying positions for preemies and newborns and can be used until 15 pounds. On the other hand, Soft-structured carriers are great for bigger babies and have a higher weight capacity up to about 45 pounds.

Ergonomic

Since you will be carrying your baby from their first months of life to a year, you want a carrier that keeps them seated in an ergonomic position. For newborns and preemies, their legs should stay together and tuck with their back curved. For infants above three months, the carrier should support their thighs and buttocks so that the legs are not dangling to encourage the hips to develop normally.

Reliability and safety

When you choose a carrier, you need to be confident that it is safe for your baby. Start by checking the weight and height restriction on the carrier before putting your baby in it. Ensure it is well made to endure long periods of babywearing without the zippers, buckles, and seams coming undone. It should also have enough room for your baby to wiggle a bit without being too loose that they can fall out. And it should be able to support your baby’s neck.

Fitting

Although most carriers have a universal fit and can be shared with family members, some are size-specific. It is a good idea to try a carrier before you buy to ensure it fits comfortably, and it does not cause pain on your back.

Versatility

You want a carrier that offers you multiple carry positions. If you have a bad back, a carrier that allows front carry is great so that you can take the weight off your lower back.

Comfort

No matter how safe or nice-looking a carrier is if it is not comfortable for the baby and you, it is not worth considering. You want soft materials, padding in the right places, and wide shoulder straps and waistband to distribute the weight so as not to strain your back or shoulders even with long wear. Also, consider airy material if you will be babywearing in hot weather.

Weight of the carrier

If you already have back problems you don’t want to compound your misery with a carrier that weighs a ton on top of your already weighty baby. Choose a safe, comfortable, and lightweight carrier. Avoid those with heavy materials and heavy frames.

Ease of use

There is always a bit of a learning curve when you first start using a baby carrier but some are easier than others. Wraps are especially difficult for a beginner and also some SSCs have so many pieces of buckles, straps, zippers that can be confusing.

If you have to get a headache and take hours just to wear a carrier, it’s not worth it. Choose a carrier you can use with ease. And if you can wear it faster on your own it is even better.

Ease of Cleaning

Messes come hand in hand with a baby. Choose a carrier that you can conveniently toss in the machine for easy cleaning and drying. It will help keep it looking fresh and prolong user life. Some models recommend only spot cleaning others recommend air drying only. Consider what is workable for your situation.

Types of baby carriers

Basically, there are five different types of carriers. Each has its own unique characteristics, so you need to consider which ones are most desirable for you in a carrier. The five types of carriers are:

  • Wrap
  • Ring sling
  • Soft Structured carriers
  • Mei-Tai
  • Baby pouch/ pouch slings

Babywearing tips for those with high back pain

If you normally experience pain in your upper back, below are a few points to keep in mind as you wear your baby, so as not to hurt your back even further:

Lift your baby carefully when placing your baby in the carrier at all times

Bend your knees as you lift the baby into the carrier

Avoid jumping and bouncing games while carrying the baby; sudden movements can cause the buckles or snaps to come undone.

Start babywearing for a few minutes then progress to longer and longer durations as you feel comfortably possible.

Choose a carrier that distributes weight evenly on your hips to relieve upper back and wear the baby close to your body as possible.

How to wear a baby carrier if you have back pain

The following are some principles to apply when wearing a baby carrier if you have a bad back or a history of bad backs.

Don’t let your baby slant forward because it will cause you to bend your back to support the weight, and could lead to strain and muscle or joint injury. The idea is to keep your baby close to you in an upright position so you can also maintain the correct posture.

Secure the straps tightly to keep the baby stable and not sagging; this, in turn, keeps your back from slouching, which causes pain.

Choose front carry over a back position to avoid placing unnecessary strain on the back muscles.

Why use a baby carrier & benefits

  • Holding the baby close in a carrier helps the baby feel loved, happy, and gives them a better playful mood.
  • Close contact with your baby boosts breast milk production and promotes frequent breastfeeding.
  • Walking around bearing the baby’s weight also counts as a great form of exercising.
  • A carrier puts the baby at almost eye level, which promotes early speech development from constantly learning your facial expressions and speech patterns.
  • Wearing your baby is a convenient option to keep your baby close and remain hands-free to attend to do other stuff. It also gives you the freedom of going to anywhere without lugging heavy car seats or strollers- imagine crowed places and stairs.
  • When your baby held so close to you in a carrier, they feel safe and protected.
  • It has been shown by research to promote better digestion, respiratory health, emotional wellbeing, better sleep, and more.

Carrying With Back Pain

Which carrier position for a bad back?

If you have a bad back carrying your baby in a position that distributes the baby’s weight poorly across your tummy will cause your pelvis to incline forward and your spine to be more arched than normal and may make your back pain.

Here are some ways you can carry the baby without hurting your back further:

  • Carry the baby higher up in the front facing position to minimize back pain
  • Place the baby in the middle of your back, so their weight is distributed evenly on your hips to ease the pressure on your spine.

Keep in mind these are just general guidelines, and that the best position for you would depend on your specific injury. So if you are looking for a suitable carrier, choose one that gives you the option of both fronts and back carries.

Hip seats

A hip seat carrier is a great choice for people with back problems. It consists of a wide waistband with a padded shelf-like seat for the baby. It helps by having the baby’s weight supported by the sturdy seat and belt rather than your back. But it can also worsen the pain for some people depending on the area of injury.

Some hip seats models do not have straps, so you support your baby by holding them close on one or both hands. Other models have removable panels that attach to the waistband allowing you to be hands-free. For anyone with back pain, we recommend getting a hip seat model that also has straps to help balance the weight.

It is also a versatile carrier allowing you to carry the baby from the front, hip, and back. However, we do not recommend carrying the baby at your side if you have back problems because the weight will pull on your spine unevenly.

Go for good adjustability and several positions

Choose a carrier that allows you to adjust the position where your baby is sitting. That way, if you feel sore in a particular spot, you can shift your baby a bit higher or lower, front or back to get some relief.

Shoulder straps – structure and padding is better

Shoulder straps – structure and padding is better

Some baby carriers have shoulder straps in H-style like a backpack with a clip at the back of the head to connect them. This is not the best style for anyone with back pain.

The best carrier designed to distribute weight evenly on your shoulders should have the straps permanently joined into an X-shape or Y shape. A good example is a carrier from Stokke My Carrier shown in the picture above. When the straps are also connected to the waist belt, it helps to distribute the weight evenly on the waistband even further. Even weight distribution not only ensures you are comfortable when carrying your baby but also great for your back.

Lumbar support

Lumbar support

Consider a carrier with lumbar support on the waist belt like this one in the picture above. Lumbar support is designed to stabilize and cushion your lower back. It helps relieve lower back pressure and allows the baby’s weight to be evenly distributed for a more comfy ride.

Avoid the ring sling

Carrying the baby in a ring sling puts the weight on one shoulder resulting in your body being weighed down on one side and consequently placing pressure on one side of your lower back. You are better off with a carrier that spreads the weight across both shoulders evenly like a wrap.

Now that you know what to avoid and what to look for in a carrier, let’s get to the best carriers for people with back pain

Best Baby Carriers for Dads 2021 (Small & Plus-size/Big/Large)

The Best Carriers For Dads in 2021

As a dad with a newborn, a cool baby carrier is a must-have item and in this post, I have analyzed, compared and reviewed a carefully selected list of best carriers for dads of all sizes in 2021. I got a lot of help from my husband who is size 17, a typical plus-size dad. Most average-size dads of size 10 to 14 find it easy to pick a carrier but as a plus-size dad, you may need to do extra research to find the ideal one for you and your baby. After combing though 25+ brands available in the market today, I narrowed down my list and finally crowned Ergobaby Carrier, Omni 360 as the overall best baby carrier for dads of all sizes in 2021. If you are in a hurry, you can skip to my review here or check its price on Amazon here.

A carrier enables you to integrate your baby into your daily affairs without much hassle. Whether you are doing house chores, shopping, walking down the streets, or through the woods, a carrier gives you an excellent way to keep your baby close while remaining hands-free. Most parents find that wearing the baby helps create a special bond with their babies. Needless to say, even the dads do not wish to be left out. In this review, we will be revealing all the available carrier options in the market for dad. Even if you are a plus size dad, do not fret, we have got you covered.

There are various models for dads to choose from, including soft structured carriers, wraps, slings, and Mei Tais. Depending on the carrier you choose, you can carry your baby in various styles the most common being front-facing and back carry. Regardless of whatever carrier you choose, the most important factor to consider is fitting because that will dictate how comfortable you and your baby will be.

Four Basic Carrier Types for Dads of All Sizes

There are usually four kinds of baby carriers available for plus-sized dads and moms and caregivers in general:

Soft-structured carriers/buckle carriers

This category includes all carriers that use buckles to fasten. Soft-structured carriers, which are the most popular in this category, are usually made of sturdy materials with a seat for the baby, shoulder straps, and a structured waistband. Onbuhimo carriers also fall into this category.

Even if you can adjust the waistband or shoulder straps, some plus size people might still not get a good fit. The best idea is to get a carrier with perfect fit adjusters which allow you to move the buckles to locations where they fit your body perfectly.

Wraps

A wrap is a long and stretchy fabric that you wrap around your body to create a carrier for your baby. This fabric is long enough for the plus size dads and moms to fit but requires you to need a bit of learning and practice to be able to tie properly.

Mei Tai

Mai Tai is a cross between a wrap and a buckle carrier. There is the center panel which forms the baby’s carrier and at the ends are two shoulder straps and two waist straps. You tie the waist straps to secure.

This simple carrier is great for all body types because it is highly adjustable. You can even find models with straps as long as 80 inches which are sufficient enough for big dads and anyone on the plus side. Even though they are worn like a wrap, a Mei Tai is much easier to learn to use.

Ring Slings

It is a long piece of fabric similar to wraps, but it comes with two rings at the end. You loop the fabric over one shoulder to form a sling and then fasten using the rings.

Ring slings are great to cuddle your newborn and hip carry for toddlers.

Slings mostly have a one-size-fits-all, but in general, they range from 72 to 78 inches in length. This length size is great for average-sized people to large body types, but if you are a plus-size dad you may want to consider a sling with a length of 80 inches and above to make sure you have enough fabric to pull through the rings.

Features To Consider When Choosing Cool Baby Carriers for Dads

Depending on the carrier type, here are some factors to look out for:

Straps

The straps should be wide and padded to distribute the weight without digging into your shoulders. They should also be long and adjustable to fit you comfortably. It is also important to check the placement of the buckles to make sure they won’t be digging into your skin.

Waistband

If the carrier uses a waistband, it should be padded and fully adjustable so that the plus-size dad can fit comfortably.

Fabrics

You want to avoid overheating materials. Look for carriers with cotton, linen, and bamboo fabrics which are breathable and cool. You might also consider carriers with mesh panels to enhance airflow in and around the carrier.

Adjustability

A good carrier should be adjustable to your needs. Although typically, the shoulder straps and waistband are usually adjustable, you also want to ensure that you can easily reach the pockets, the hoods, any straps and buckles that need adjusting for you and your baby’s comfort.

Size Of Carriers For Average-Size Dads Vs Carriers For Big/Plus Size Dads

Most baby carriers in the market today are designed in favor of the average to large size body types, usual people between size 10 and 14.  If you are size 16 and above, you fall into the plus-size category.

As a dad with an average size body, it is unlikely for you to struggle to get a carrier that fits you. Whether you opt for a structured carrier or one with a one-size-fits-all design, it will be easy for you to adjust to your correct fit.

On the other hand, if you are a plus size, you will need to take note of the waist and shoulder measurements of the carrier. How well/ or not a particular carrier fits you depend on where you carry most of your weight. Another option is to consider carriers with a universal fit, that stretch, and contour around the body.

Tips For Choosing The Perfect Buckle Carriers For Plus Size Dads

Keep in mind that being a plus-size wearer, it might be challenging to get the right buckle carrier.

  • Aside from considering the length of the arms and waist belt, also check to see if there is padding and that it will still cover the right places after you adjust.
  • Consider carriers that offer extra adjustability, for example, buckles that open all the way to lengthen the padding or move them to a more comfortable spot.
  • Look for dual adjusted side buckles that you can move to a more comfortable spot. With these buckles, you can adjust the straps by pulling forward instead of backward, which is much easier for the wearer.

#4. Beco Gemini for Big Dads

The Beco Gemini is another favorite option and the fourth on this list of best carriers designed for dads in 2021. We like the versatility, but it is also a suitable option for all the plus-size people. If all of our choices above are still too restrictive for you, try the Beco Gemini. The waistband stretches to a generous 59 inches and the shoulder straps up to 45 inches.

With this carrier carrying your baby will not feel like a chore. The shoulder straps are designed wide and padded without being bulky. The carrier is also very versatile with up to four carrying options to choose from including front facing in, facing out, hip carry, and back.

Tips For Choosing A Wrap For Dads

Below are some tips to help you choose the best wrap:

  • Consider a stretchy fabric that will allow you to put in the baby with ease, especially if you are inexperienced in babywearing.
  • Consider 100% cotton wraps that will offer the support you need.
  • Consider a breathable material because you will be wrapping the layers around you trapping a lot of heat. Airy light fabrics like bamboo are especially great for hot weather. Overall choose a light to medium weight wrap which won’t get too hot.

Below are our top three wrap options:

#1. Baby Ktan Breeze

The Baby Ktan wrap is our best wrap for dads for many reasons and comes top on this mini-list of best baby wraps for dads. First, it is the easiest wrap to wear, even if you are new to babywearing. You just slip it over your head like a t-shirt and put your arms through the loops – no complicated wrapping techniques.

Second, this particular version is very breathable. It is 100% cotton fabric with jersey knitting on one side and the other mesh.

Pros

  • Lightweight and compact
  • Very comfortable
  • Different sizes for all body types

It provides the support of a woven wrap allowing you to carry even heavier toddlers without sagging. It also makes it safe and secure to carry the baby in other positions such as front-facing out and back- which you can’t do with other less supportive wraps.

Tips For Choosing A Ring Sling For Dads

When choosing a Ring Sling baby carrier, you should:

  • Consider the length

It is better to have a longer sling than a shorter one because the excess fabric can always be configured to more styles, or tuck around the rings, or you can have it tailored to fit. A sling measuring 80 inches or longer is great if you are over size 16 and 72 to 78 inches if you are size 16 and below.

  • Consider Shoulder Type

If you have rounded or sloping shoulders, a sling with a wider or gathered shoulder is more suitable for you. If you have narrow shoulders, go with a sling with narrow shoulders such as the Maya Wrap Lightly Padded Sling below. A slim shoulder strap is also less restrictive of your arm movement. The padding on the shoulder enhances your comfort.

  • Consider the Pockets

This may be a pro or a con depending on your preference. If a sling has a pocket, you might find it convenient to keep some small essentials like keys, or phones but it also reduces the length of the sling that you can use unless you already have excess fabric.

Below are our best ring sling options for big dads:

#1. Moby Ring Sling

We hope our selection of carriers, comparisons, and detailed reviews has brought you closer to finding the coolest baby carrier that you can be a proud to wear as a dad, regardless of your size (plus-size or otherwise).

Boba Wrap vs Moby Wrap Vs Solly Vs Others

If you are looking to get a wrap, you probably have heard about the famous Boba wrap. It is a best seller on many marketing websites and is ranked number one on Amazon. Perhaps you are wondering if it’s really all that great and would like to see how it stacks up with other top competing brands before deciding if it is the wrap for you. Our review below is a side by side comparison of Boba wrap against other brands, and we hope it will help you make an informed choice.

Boba Wrap

The Boba Wrap has been America’s most favorite wrap over the years and is rated #1 on Amazon. It has a traditional wrap design, which is a long fabric with no buckles, straps, or buttons. You wrap the fabric around your body to create a carrier that enables you to hug your little one tightly and closely in an ergonomic position. It is made from The French terry cloth which consists of 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The Spandex gives the material just the right amount of stretch to contour around you and your baby’s body while remaining snug, soft and comfortable.

Moby Wrap

The Moby wrap is another excellent option and a favorite for many. It is made from 100% cotton material and is extra-long, which enables you to configure it to many styles, once you get to learn how to tie it properly. It is recommended for newborns weighing 8 pounds up to 35 pounds.

Once you tie the Moby wrap, it distributes the baby’s weight across your shoulders, hips and back making it comfortable to wear for long periods.

Similarities between the Boba and Moby wrap

  • Both wraps are one long piece of fabric that is tied expertly into a baby carrier.
  • The fabric of both wraps is mainly cotton which feels soft, comfortable and thick. Since they are both long fabrics, you need to layer the material when wrapping, which traps body heat. So keep in mind that the Boba and Moby wraps are comfortable for use during fall, spring and winter months to avoid overheating.
  • Both wraps are long and stretchy, so they have a universal fit no matter your body shape or size. They can also be used by both women and men. Which also means you can just buy one for everyone within your household to share.
  • Both wraps have the same weight capacity from newborns to 35 pounds, although most parents like to use wraps until the baby is about 15 pounds. If you have a preemie, you can buy any of these wraps for you to try the newborn hold position. Preemies thrive on this position, enjoying the skin to skin closeness and warmth like the womb.
  • Both wraps can support babies weighing up to 35 pounds, although they work the best for newborns and babies under 15 pounds.
  • Both come in different colors and styles, so you can choose whichever you like.
  • Both wraps have Bamboo versions which are ideal for hot weather.
  • Both are within the same price range ($40). This is a super affordable and durable product; both provide great value for money.

Differences between the Boba and Moby wrap

  • The first difference you notice is the difference in material. The Boba wrap is made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex. Moby, on the other hand, is pure 100% cotton. As mentioned earlier, the Spandex makes the Boba softer and stretchy so much so that you need to tie the wrap really tight to avoid sagging. Unfortunately, this causes the Boba wrap to sag with the weight of the baby over time. Also, even though it is shorter than the Moby, due to the stretching, after tying you end up with a ton of extra fabric dragging down unless you are really tall.
  • The other difference with the fabric is that the Boba stretches end to end and along the width, this makes it less supportive, needing you to tie it very tightly to make up for it. Conversely, the Moby wrap stretches only along the width of the wrap, giving you more support, and hence you tie when you feel the tightness is just right. The advantage the Boba has regarding its stretching ability is that putting the baby in and out is much easier.
  • Although both are great for newborn babies, the Boba has a lower age restriction of 5 lbs while the Moby wrap recommends bigger newborns at 8 lbs. Boba has a note on their newborn hold that says it can be used for babies 2-10 pounds. You might want to seek your pediatrician’s advice before attempting to use a wrap with an infant below 5 pounds.
  • The Boba wrap measures over 17ft and 1.5ft wide while the Moby wrap is over 18ft long and 2ft wide. So as you can see, the Moby is both longer and broader. This may be an issue for petite moms who may find the fabric a bit too cumbersome.

Boba Wrap vs Solly

Solly Wrap

The Solly wrap is an American manufactured wrap from California. It is made using Lenzing modal fabric from Austrian Birchwood trees. Like the Boba wrap, it is a stretchable, one piece that requires skill to be tied into a carrier. It is a lightweight and breezy wrap which makes it a perfect choice for summer, spring, and fall babywearing. Also folds up nicely into a small portable package. Let’s see how it compares with the Boba wrap.

Similarities of Boba Wrap and Solly

  • Both are great for newborns from 5 pounds.
  • Both are a one size-fits-all
  • Both wraps recommend carrying the baby only from the front facing in position.
  • Both can be machine washed and dryer safe.
  • Both wraps come in different colors and styles.

Differences: Boba Wrap vs Solly

  • While Boba is made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex, the Solly wrap is made using Lenzing Modal fabric (sourced from Austrian Beechwood trees). It is a semi-synthetic rayon fabric with excellent properties which makes the fabric to have some stretch, resists shrinking and pilling much better than cotton fabric.
  • The Solly fabric is lighter and breathable than the Boba’s cotton fabric, which makes the Solly ideal for hot weather like in summer and spring months. It also makes the Solly wrap foldable into a smaller package than the Boba wrap.
  • The Solly wrap is about a feet longer at 18 ft than the Boba wrap. However, since it is lighter, it is more manageable and easier to tie than the Boba wrap.
  • The Solly wrap has a pocket at one end of the wrap where you can keep a pacifier, napkin or a bottle while on the move. The Boba wrap does not have any pockets.
  • The Boba wrap allows longer carrying up to 35 pounds whereas the Solly wrap has a limit of 25 pounds.
  • The Solly wrap is a bit pricier than the Boba wrap by about $20 and is only sold from the company’s website. Boba is available in several major stores as well as their website.

Boba Wrap vs Ring sling

A ring sling is a long fabric that comes with two rings. The fabric is configured across the torso and secured by the rings on one shoulder to create a pouch where the baby sits. It is also versatile and can be worn on the chest, hip and back to give your baby lots of fun carrying positions. While Boba wrap requires skill and practice to learn how to tie, a ring sling is easier to master. Let’s see how the Boba wrap compares to a ring sling.

Similarities

  • Both carriers allow you to have skin-to-skin contact with your little one while allowing you to remain hands-free. However, a ring sling is not recommended for small babies who can’t support their heads. Boba wrap provides the neck and head support preemies and babies less than three months in need.
  • Both are long pieces of cotton fabric, but ring slings can also be from linen, silk, wool, and cashmere.

Differences

  • The Boba wrap is a bit more complicated to tie than a ring sling. It goes over both shoulders and around your waist, distributing the baby weight evenly. As a result, the Boba wrap is suitable for long baby wearing. With a ring sling, the weight is supported on one shoulder, which makes it only suitable for short periods of baby wearing. It is also not the best option for heavier toddlers because it doesn’t distribute the weight evenly so that it will be uncomfortable for you. In case you have a small baby or a big toddler, Boba wrap is the perfect choice for either case.
  • A ring sling is easier and faster to wear and get off than a wrap, making it suitable for moms who wish for a carrier they can wear multiple times a day. With Boba, it is tedious to keep tying, although it is easy to fit the baby inside compared to other wraps due to the stretching ability.
  • The ring sling allows more carrying positions like the front inward, kangaroo, and hip carry. The Boba wrap allows front inward and kangaroo style but not hip carry.

Boba Wrap vs Ergo Baby Carrier

When it comes to baby wearing, two names are famous; the Boba and Ergo carriers. Both of them are different visually but designed for close, skin to skin bonding and convenience of being hands free.

While the Boba wrap is a long fabric to be wrapped around the body and tied at different positions to secure, the Ergo baby is a soft structured carrier with buckles in the waist, shoulders and back to secure the baby. Below is how they match up.

Similarities

  • Both carriers can be used with newborns and toddlers, but the ergo requires an infant insert which is bought separately.
  • Both are made from cotton fabric, although the Boba has an addition of Spandex.
  • Both allow you to carry the baby close to your body in the front inward carry position.
  • With both carriers, weight is distributed evenly on the shoulders and around the waist hence more comfortable for extended wear.
  • Both allow ergonomic carrying position without putting pressure on the developing baby’s hips or spine.
  • Both can be bulky or cause overheating. The Boba can make you and your baby sweaty due to the extra layers that trap heat, and Ergo can cause overheating due to the padding.
  • Both are easy to clean with machine wash.
  • Both have different color options and can be used by both mom and dad.

Differences

  • The Ergo being a structured carrier, is more supportive, allowing more weight capacity than the Boba wrap. Ergo has a limit of 45 pounds while Boba has 35 pounds. If you want a carrier to grow with your baby, the Ergo carrier is the better option.
  • Due to the Spandex, the Boba wrap stretches according to the wearer’s body, giving it a universal fit. The Ergo has a waistband designed to fit a wide variety of people but may not give a proper fit for petite and plus size parents. If you want a carrier which offers you a personalized fit, the Boba carrier should be your choice.
  • With Boba, you might need to keep adjusting the hold after extended periods of use due to movement and lack of support which changes the position of the baby. Ergo does not expand so once you get the right fit, the baby will stay in that position. If you don’t want the trouble of feeling the baby shifting lower and keeping adjusting the tie, go with the Ergo carrier.
  • Ergo is easier and faster to put on because of the buckles, the Boba has so much fabric that you layer and then tie tight, which usually requires practice to get it right.
  • Ergo gives you more carrying positions from the front facing in, hip and back. Boba wrap only allows front facing in and Kangaroo (very beneficial for preemies and newborns).
  • The Ergo carrier has a zippered pocket for your essentials like keys, phone, and wallet. The Boba wrap does not have any pockets.
  • Their pricing has a big difference. The Boba comes at the range of $40 while Ergo is at $100.
  • You can be able to nurse in the Boba wrap, but the Ergo baby is a bit trickier because you can’t carry the baby in the cradle position.
  • You can wear the baby in the Boba wrap all by yourself, but with the Ergo carrier, it is a bit tricky to wear or remove because the buckle clips are at the back unless you are carrying in the back position.

Boba Wrap vs Baby K’tan

Although the Boba and Baby K’tan are all classified as wraps, the K’tan is not your traditional wrap design. It is designed to offer the comfort and closeness of a wrap without the complicated tying, rings, buttons, or buckles. You just wear it and adjust from only one strap to your comfort. This is how it compares with the Boba wrap they compare:

Similarities

  • Both are made from cotton and use other fabrics for their more breathable models for hot weather. The Boba has a bamboo variation while Baby K’tan has a polyester mesh version.
  • Both have different color options and can be used by both women and men.
  • Both carriers allow you to nurse the baby on the move.
  • Both come at the same price range ($40)

Differences

  • Boba wrap is a large one-size fits all design which eliminates the hassle of determining the right size for you. Because it fits all body types and you can share with everyone in your family, so you don’t need to buy multiple pieces. Conversely, Baby’ Ktan comes in different sizes from XXS to XL. For the correct fit, you use your dress size for ladies, and jacket size for men. This can be a hard task, especially if you are buying while still expectant, considering all the changes your body might go through. You may also need to buy a second or third piece for your partner and other family members if they are a different body size. You can get more information on getting the right fit from Baby K’tan’s website or a chart on Amazon.
  • Unlike the Boba wrap, which requires skill to wrap and tie properly, the Baby K’tan is extremely easy to wear. It has a double loop design that eliminates the hassle of wrapping. You simply wear it like a scarf and put your arms through the loops like a T-shirt.
  • The Baby K’tan does not come with the excess fabric like the Boba, which makes it less bulky and ideal for petite parents. It is also not time consuming to wear like the Boba.
  • The Baby K’tan offers up to five carrying positions including facing in, facing out and hip carry, while the Boba wrap only allows front facing in.

Boba Wrap vs Cuddlebug

The Cuddlebug wrap is another close competitor of the Boba wrap. It has the same great soft and stretchy texture like the Boba wrap and about the same length. As a result, the Cuddlebug wrap offers a one-size fit all. However, it is tied a bit differently to Boba and other wraps and can offer more styles. Find out below how it compares with the Boba wrap.

Similarities

  • Both are made from the French terry fabric, which is a blend of 95% cotton and 5% spandex which gives the fabric a bit of stretch.
  • The fabric of both wraps is thick, which makes it suitable for colder months.
  • Both wraps state that newborns and toddlers can use them from 2 pounds to 35 pounds. But we cannot advise you to use a wrap for carrying an infant below 5 pounds without your doctor’s consent.
  • Both are easy to clean, machine washable and dryer safe.
  • Both come at the same price range at about $ 40

Differences

  • Although they share the same material, the Cuddlebug wrap is shorter and broader than the Boba wrap. It measures about 14.7ft long and 1.6ft wide, which is almost 3 feet shy of the Boba wrap. This could be a pro if you are slim or petite since you can wrap it around your body comfortably and be able to tie in the different configurations and styles it offers. Some customers, probably those on the plus size, find it too short when trying some styles.
  • Cuddlebug wrap offers up to 9-in-1 carrying positions compared to Boba which has only one. You can carry your little one in the newborn hold, breastfeed sling, front carry, side carry, cross carry, hip carry, kangaroo carry, and side sling. The Boba only allows front facing in carry.

Boba Wrap vs Chekoh Wrap

Chekoh wrap is one of the most famous brands in the Australian market and is manufactured by Chekoh. It can only be compared more closely to the bamboo variation of the Boba wrap than the original version. Other than the material, everything else is similar to all traditional wraps. Check out below how it compares to the Boba wrap.

Similarities

  • Both are long, stretchy fabrics which are a one-size-fits-all.
  • Both have Spandex all though the Chekoh wrap has a higher percentage which makes it also very soft and a bit stretchier than the Boba wrap.
  • Both wraps allow easy cleaning by machine and can tumble dry on low heat.
  • Both wraps allow only front inward carrying position.

Differences

  • The original Boba wrap material consists of cotton and Spandex while the Chekoh wrap has Bamboo and Spandex.
  • Chekoh wrap is designed for hot weather baby wearing. But if you prefer a wrap from the Boba brand for hot weather, they have the Boba Serenity wrap version. The Serenity wrap is made from Bamboo, Cotton and Spandex, so as you can see, it is lighter and more breathable than the original Boba version.
  • Both wraps are great for newborns, but the Boba wrap has a higher weight capacity than the Chekoh wrap. The limit for Boba is 35 pounds, while that of Chekoh is 22 pounds. This might not be a huge factor since most parents only use their wraps until their kid is about 20 pounds.
  • The Chekoh wrap is quite pricey ($99) compared to Boba, which comes at about half its price.

Conclusion

We love all these wraps, but the Boba wrap is our most favorite. Though it has a bit of a learning curve (like all traditional wraps), once you get down to it, you will never look back. The material is soft, thick with a bit of stretch, which will make it easy for you to fit the baby in and out. You can start using it as soon as your baby arrives, yes, even if it’s a preemie up to 35 pounds. Most often you will find you can only use it until your baby is a year old or about 15 pounds. And the material is premium quality and durable so you can even use it with another sibling.

We love that it is a one-size-fits-all so anyone, even other family members, can help with wearing your baby without extra costs. You might not get many carrying positions, but at least with the front inward position, it is all you need to create a special bond with your baby. It might also not have pockets, but that is really a minor factor, after all, how much can a wrap carry? That’s why your hands are free. So generally, for the affordable price of about $40, the Boba wrap offers you value for money.

9 Best Baby Carriers for Preemies that are Safe in 2021

9 Best Baby Carriers for Preemies that are Safe in 2021

If your baby is part of the 9.8% of babies born prematurely, this post will give you all the info you need to pick the best baby carrier for your pre-term baby. As I put together this research, I learned a ton about premature birth including the statistics that 380,000 babies are born on or before the 37th week of pregnancy. Given the high number of pre-term babies, companies have moved to satisfy the needs of parents looking for safer and more comfortable carriers.

Preemies require a lot of special needs as they are susceptible to more health compared to those born close to or in their due date. They need to be taken care of in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). So, that also means that their baby carriers are unlike those of other newborns.

About the Best Carriers for Preemies

Baby wearing is now a common practice among parents and caregivers of full-term babies. Preemies can be admitted in the NICU for some time, maybe weeks or months, under strict rules and routines. And while baby wearing isn’t in the list of doctor’s routines, parents of preemies can as well enjoy the fun in it. The average weight of newborn babies is 7.5 pounds(3.5 Kgs), although the normal range could be 5.5 pounds (2.5 Kgs) to 10 pounds(4.5 kgs). Carriers for preemies are those suitable to carrying light babies – below 5.5 pounds, usually pre-term babies’ weights.

But parents have to choose the right carrier type for preemies between the woven wrap, ring-sling, soft-structured, and mei-tai. The choice also depends on the parent and the size & weight of the kid. If they are preemie twins, then you will need a strong infant carrier.

How the Best Baby Carrier can help Preemies

Just like in full-term infants, baby carriers are beneficial to preemies in numerous ways:

  • First off, a baby carrier acts like an external womb that promotes bonding during this stressful period.
  • Preemies need skin-to-skin contact with their moms where a baby carrier provides both snugness and safety.
  • Preemies are very sleepy and a baby carrier keeps them close to their moms for both warmth and comfort.
  • The scent of a mom’s skin and heartbeat gives the preemie a calming effect thus promoting growth. It also reduces crying.
  • Preemies tend to feed more and a baby carrier helps moms to breastfeed their infants more for weight gain and growth.

What is the Right Time to Carry Preemie Baby?

This is a common but rather tricky question that most people, especially mothers will ask after having a baby prematurely. A preemie’s development occurs in the same order as it would have while in the mother’s womb. So, mostly this depends on how early your baby was born, between 26 weeks and 37 weeks.

We recommend that you consult the health care provider who is in charge of your preemie. But the infant must at least be breastfeeding, be 4+ lbs., or breathe and add weight gradually. The preemie must also maintain warmth without the support of an incubator.

Babywearing Your Preemie in the NICU, A Beginner’s Guide

Things to Consider when you Carry Preemie Baby

As mentioned above, preemies are more delicate to handle than full-term infants. As such, carrying them should not be done instantly! You must first observe the infant’s abilities and limits.

Many factors come into play, so observe these things when you carry a preemie:

  • Practice how to wrap up an infant before actually doing it (using a doll, for instance) so you can be sure of what you are doing. The last thing you want is to cause harm to your baby.
  • Is your baby strong enough to be in a baby carrier? Check the preemie’s physical stability.
  • Wrap the infant up snugly, but make sure they are comfortable.
  • Nursing a premature baby is very demanding for parents. So, you need to wear patience and confidence as a virtual to be the best parent.
  • Baby slings are the best choice for preemies. Yet, they can raise breathing problems due to keeping the preemie in a C-shape. Also, make sure you can see the kid’s nose and mouth all the time to avoid suffocation.

Best Baby Carriers for Petite Moms

Nothing is as hard as breaking the bond between a mom and her newborn. There is this feeling that she wants to embrace her young one almost every now and then. Babies also have this natural need to be near their parents or caregivers.

Well, carrying a baby every time in your hands can be strenuous (regardless of their weight), and can even stand in the way of doing your simple daily house chores. That is where a baby carrier comes into play! But you will need to find a baby carrier that fits you and your baby, which is where petite moms find the task overwhelming.

About Petite Moms

Petite is a tricky body type category as it covers all body types. What do I mean? You might be petite, yet short all over, or have long legs, or curvaceous hips, or a big bust. Petite moms come in all shapes and sizes, a factor that plays a major role when it comes to fashion.

A mom is considered petite if they are shorter than 5 ft. 4 inches (162 cm) in height, and it can sometimes be 5 ft. 3 inches). So, baby carriers for petite moms tend to cater for women with narrow shoulders, short arms, and short physique.

In that case, petite moms also have short torsos.

What to Consider: Buying Criteria for Baby Carrier for Petite Moms

Before you make that final decision to purchase baby carrier, there are some factors that you should consider. The buying criteria below ensure that while the baby carrier is comfortable for a petite mom, it is still adjustable for another caregiver to use it.

  • Adjustability: An adjustable baby carrier can be adjusted into a more compact item to match smaller frames. As such, check the shoulder straps, waist belts so the baby carrier can offer a comfy experience. Some baby carriers include two-way adjusters.
  •  Safety: The safety of your baby is determined by the carrier methods, fitting, and positions. Infants need to maintain a proper hip and leg position for natural hip development. As such, a baby carrier should allow the baby to spread their legs and hips naturally to protect them from hip dysplasia.
  • Construction material: As you hold or carry the baby, the body heat between you and your baby is inevitable. The choice of fabrics is essential, as some materials overheat faster depending on the season or weather. Ensure you choose breathable fabrics that allow airflow, such as linen and cotton.
  • Size: Pick wraps and baby carriers that include a snugly fitting design for petite moms. Size and adjustment work hand-in-hand to bring comfort to both you and your baby.
  • Comfort: As a petite mom, you should feel comfortable with the baby carrier you are using. So, choose an infant carrier that distributes the kid’s weight evenly across your body. As such, make sure the baby carrier is ergonomic to avoid excessive neck and back pressure.
  • Baby’s Age: Your child’s age and baby carrier size are closely related. For a newborn, a pouch or ring sling baby carrier is perfect as it allows you to breastfeed easily. This factor is closely related to the carrier’s coverage of your baby to offer comfort during nursing.

Different types of Baby Carriers for Small Moms

There are many available options and different types of baby carriers for small moms on the market. Here are some common and suitable types of baby carriers for either parents (moms and dads) or caregivers:

  1. Wraps

Wraps offer excellent comfort and natural position (spread-squat) support. As such, they are a perfect pick for small moms with newborns. While they have a slightly steep tying learning curve making most parents dubious and insecure, they are an ideal baby carrier choice.

They allow your child to feel each of our heartbeats providing them with additional comfort.

  1. Ring Slings

The adjustability and customizability of ring slings make them an ideal choice for petite moms. These baby carriers are also user-friendly and forthright. They are along price of fabric with rings made of solid metal. The metal ring tightens the sling to improve their security.

  1. Buckle Carriers

Buckle carriers are the most commonly used types of baby carriers among parents. Unlike wraps, buckle carriers are easy to use as you just need to buckle the carrier and they go off you go. These types of carriers are daddy’s favorite.

Unfortunately, petite moms can hardly find the precise buckle carrier for them due to the padding in the shoulders. The carrier’s broad waistband isn’t fit for petite moms.

  1. Meh Dai Carriers

Meh Dai carriers are very flexible, a factor that makes it a fantastic baby carrier for most parents. It uses a combination of a range of fabric straps for additional comfort when carrying your baby. Meh Dai comes with two shoulder straps and two waistline straps.

This baby carrier is a blend of wrap and buckle carriers.

  1. Pouch Slings

Pouch slings are almost similar to ring slings, just that their adjustment isn’t as easy and quick. They are very affordable, and they require proper fitting to make them secure for carrying your baby.
