Why It’s In the Top 10 Best-Seller List (Pros)

Over 500 parents have reviewed this baby monitor on various retail sites and what you notice are stellar 5-star reviews that praise it for various reasons. Here are what stood out as we researched what’s great about Vava video baby monitor:

#1. High Definition IPS Display

Vava baby monitor displays in a large 5-inch screen that uses IPS monitor technology best suited for color-critical professional applications

vava-baby-monitor-HD-Display
Vava Baby Monitor Display

Unlike several non-wifi baby monitors that use LCD display, Viva displays in high definition IPS monitor. In our reviews here at 10BabyGear, only Eufy Spaceview has a similar large LCD screen that displays 720p HD videos. Most of the other non-wifi monitors such as Anmeate, Campark baby monitor, UU Infant and Hellobaby display in Video Graph Array (VGA), a technology developed by IBM in 1987 and with a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels.

Vava uses IPS display with IPS standing for an “In-plane switching” screen that has crystals aligned in parallel to ensure it produces rich colored colors. One of the major advantages of Vava’s IPS monitor is its outstanding accuracy and color consistency in all available viewing angles.

Below is an image of the Vava baby monitor displaying on its large IPS screen.

Unlike LCD display or Liquid Display Panels which embraces a thin layer of liquid crystals between layers and electrodes, IPS ensures uniform pixelation of images virtually eliminating color contrasts.

#2. Wider Field of View

Unlike other high-rated baby monitors such as Infant Optics that require an extra lens to cover a wider area, Vava baby monitor can cover up to 270 degrees pan and up to 110 degrees tilt. This is very wide and considerably better than what you can find in the market for less than $200.

#3. Hack-Proof Technology

Vava baby monitor uses FHSS transmission technology that operates in the 2.4GHz frequency. The FHSS stands for Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum and it was invented in 1941 by Americans. During the Second World War, FHSS powered secret communication the Allied Forces and it was not until 1990s that the technology was used to power devices such as baby monitors. FHSS transmission assures 100% privacy as the signal hops from one sub-frequency to another from a selection of over 70 sub-frequencies that Vava baby monitor uses as it transmits audio and visual signals. You can rest assured that your baby is safe when using this baby monitor. Like all other hack-proof baby monitors we’ve reviewed, Vava baby monitor has limited interference and minimal jamming.

#4. Long Battery Life:

In our reviews, only a few other baby monitors such as Willcare surpass 20 hours of battery life. I was very impressed to learn that Vava actually lives up to the claim they’ve made in the marketing materials that its battery life can last for up to 24 hours on standby mode! Stand-by mode is when it only transmits sound. It uses a large-capacity storage battery with 4500mAh.

Some parents have seen it go for 15 to 18 hours on standby mode. That’s almost a full day of monitoring. A few parents actually commented that they’ve seen it do two days!

#5. Long Warranty Period of Up to 30 Months

In addition to the $30 coupon that you get if you purchase Vava baby monitor on Amazon, this baby monitor also has 12 months free warranty an additional 18 months standard warranty. This brings the total warranty period to 30 months, that’s more than 2 years. I was very impressed to learn this given that a typical baby monitor has a durability of 2 years.

Compare Vava with other baby monitors such as VTech that offer as little as 3 months warranty and you get to appreciate that Vava is very confident of this baby monitor. The biggest issue with most baby monitors and what ultimately reduces their durability is the night vision mode that deteriorates over time. With a warranty period of up to 30 months, you can get to replace your Vava baby monitor if you Vava baby monitor night vision stops working by contacting support@vava.com

#6. Ease of Use and Variety of Features

Vava is among the easiest baby monitor you can find in the market and over half of the reviews we aggregated as we did our research pointed out to how easy it was to use this baby monitor. The screen unit, which is among the largest, is very intuitive with icons showing several helpful shortcuts for features and functionalities such as temperature, night-vision mode, time, battery bar, alarm, mute feature, 2-way talk feature, zoom levels.

The alarm function allows you to set reminders in 2, 4 or 6 hours and I personally used it mostly when my baby was taking short afternoon naps. My baby usually sleeps from around 3 to 5 pm and If I have to leave the house I make sure that I set the 2-hour alarm so I am back before the little one wakes up. When it starts ringing, it beeps for 30 seconds and goes quiet for another minute if I don’t press any key. It does this three times and can start being annoying if you’re not a fan of alarms.

The fact that the screen is bigger than the screen of my iPhone makes it very easy for me and even my parents to use it when they’re visiting.

Vava Baby Monitor Cons

#1. Night vision:

Similar to most non-wifi baby monitors, the night vision mode can at times fail to switch from low-light condition to a full-light condition, making it display only black and white images. The reason is that Vava baby monitor has a sensor that automatically turns on night vision mode. This feature is great but make sure you follow all night vision guidelines to ensure that it’s working correctly. Vava baby monitor has 12 high-intensity infrared LEDs, more than Infant Optics’ 8 infrared LEDs and it should work correctly if used well. It, however, has a shorter night vision range of 6.5 feet, less than Infant Optics 15 ft night vision range.

#2. Volume Not Loud Enough:

Some parents complained that the noise is not loud enough and one parent specifically mentioned that it fails to wake her up. Make sure you crank up the volume using the button on the parent unit.

If you placed within proximity with another device that uses 2.4Ghz frequency such as the router, it can lose connection easily due to interference.

#3. Too Bright Night Vision LED

The night vision green infrared LED light is visible to the baby and may make keep your baby up at night. Night vision cameras use infrared light to illuminate on your baby and most cameras are required to have the infrared to be invisible. Unfortunately, some cameras including Vava’s do not have a completely invisible infrared LED light

#4. Vava Baby Monitor Split Screen:

Vava baby monitor does not support split-screen viewings like Moonybaby video baby monitor and the recent Babysense monitor with split-screen viewing. Vava baby monitor, however, supports full-screen viewing but it scans multiple cameras automatically every 15 seconds. It supports up to 4 cameras which can be connected to the monitor/screen at the same time.

#5. No VOX Mode

Despite being advertised as a voice-activated baby monitor, Vava does not have a VOX mode. The screen is not activated based on sound. The sound is always on. There is a light indicator if the baby cries but the screen doesn’t turn on.

Conclusion: Vava baby monitor will give you superior images and video feed of your baby with its IPS display. In addition, Vava has a longer battery life, longer range, and higher zoom level, superior night vision mode, and accurate in-built thermostat. It is also significantly cheaper if you apply this coupon of $30. On the other hand, Infant Optics DXR 8 has been around for some time and has gained a reputation as a reliable brand with an interchangeable lens and the monitor has several accessory parts available in case you need a part replaced. You can get a replacement monitor if you break the screen and can also get replacement cords and can rely on their great customer support.

Vava Baby Monitor Vs Eufy

Both Vava and Eufy baby monitors have large screens measuring 5-inches. In addition, both monitors are among the top-rated non-wifi baby monitors that support up to 4 cameras.

The biggest difference between Eufy and Vava is the transmission range. Eufy has a lower transmission range compared to Vava. Vava also has a longer battery life (up to 24 hours), thanks to its large-capacity storage batteries with 4,500 mAh. On the other hand, the 2900mAh battery capacity of Eufy lasts for less than 10 hours.

Another significant difference lies in the nature of their screen displays. Vava baby monitor uses the IPS display while Eufy uses an LCD screen.

The table below has more details of Vava vs Eufy:

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a reliable non-wifi monitor with a superior IPS display, Vava baby monitor might be the best option for you. I also prefer Vava to Eufy because of its ease of mounting it. Vava comes with a mounting hole that allows you to easily mount it on a wall or on a flat surface. On the other hand, Eufy does not come with a mounting kit. If you want a mounting kit, you’d need to go for Eufy Spaceview S which comes with a mounting kit but costs almost $30 more. You can check the price of the mount-ready Eufy video monitor here.
